An effective leader, with a heart for God and God’s people, Rev. Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr., is the visionary pastor of The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The Nashville, Tennessee native received the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Mathematics and Business Administration from Fisk University, the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, cum laude, from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where he was a Benjamin E. Mays Fellow and a scholar for the Fund for Theological Education. He also earned the Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. Understanding that ministry is holistic in nature, Dr. Flippin received certification as a Life Transformational Coach and a Leadership Coach Trainer.
Since 1990, Dr. Flippin has led the congregation of The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church. (www.GreaterPineyGrove.church) Since that time, the church has witnessed significant growth, beginning in the first two years of Pastor Flippin’s tenure with the remodel and construction of many existing areas of the church including restrooms, sanctuary, and office space, and institution of approximately 14 new ministries to meet the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the church. To meet the needs of the growing congregation, Dr. Flippin oversaw the church’s construction of the new state-of-the-art 1500 seat Worship Center in 2014. In 30 plus years as pastor, Dr. Flippin has led the church to ordain over 100 new ministers and deacons, build and pay off a Family Life Center, establish scholarship funds and awards, and establish numerous Christian education and resource centers for the congregation and community.
Understanding that the church cannot live apart from the community, Dr. Flippin has established The Grove as a key stakeholder for the people of Atlanta and DeKalb County. The church is actively engaged with the community through many initiatives including the NAACP, its Outreach Center, annual holiday giving, self-help programs, and Pastor Flippin is President of the DeKalb Juvenile Justice Commission. Dr. Flippin serves in various roles in the election and campaigns of local, state and national elections. Recently, Dr. Flippin was appointed by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens' Transition Team for his new administration. Finally, the church is looking forward to seeing the completion of the Grove Gardens at East Lake Senior Living Community in 2020.
Flippin also serves as Founder and CEO of The Flippin Legacy Ministries, the Pearl Initiative, Inc., and Pears of Great Price Ministries, Inc. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and formerly served as the National Chaplain. Dr. Flippin is also an accomplished author of six books: In My Father’s House, God’s Order: Order in the Church, God’s Order: Order in the Pulpit, God’s Order, Vision 20/20, and Church Administration: Building Success Through Collective Organization. Dr. Flippin firmly believes that God has commissioned him for the purpose of Raising Leaders, and to that end, he has dedicated his life. He is a mentor to pastors, ministers, and community and business leaders. Using his skills as a certified coach, Dr. Flippin is often the spiritual conduit to connect individuals to their optimal leadership capacity. His ministry has allowed him to preach and teach internationally in many countries such as Africa, the Bahamas, and Israel, to name a few.
He is married to Sylvia Taylor Flippin. Mrs. Flippin is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and holds a master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University. She is a retired instructional coach for the DeKalb County Board of Education. Together, they are the proud parents of four children: three sons who continue the family preaching legacy, Rev. Dr. William Edward Flippin, Jr., and his wife KedraFlippin, Rev. Dr. Richard Curtis Flippin, and Rev. Joseph Charles Taylor Flippin; and one daughter Miss Sylvia Joi Flippin. Dr. and Mrs. Flippin are also the beaming grandparents of Shamel Emani Flippin

The Rev. Dr. William Flippin, Jr. is the former Assistant to the Bishop and Director of Evangelical Mission for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, serving 2019-2021. Pastor Flippin's portfolio included congregational vitality, redevelopment, and new start congregations, working with rostered ministers in the Leadership for Faithful Innovation cohort, and walking alongside at-risk communities. His most significant contribution came in walking alongside vulnerable congregations during the pandemic and spearheading an anti-gun violence group called "Heeding God's Call." This was the continuation of his work in Atlanta as a founding member of Outcry: Faith Leaders Against Gun Violence. He is currently an itinerant missioner for Lutheran and Episcopal congregations, mainly in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York.
Pastor Flippin served as the first African-American pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a multicultural congregation. In this call, he organized collaboration among Lutheran, United Methodist, Episcopal, and Baptist congregations through the Transformative Atlanta Parish.
In addition to his service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor Flippin serves for the Lutheran World Federation Church Council and Co-Chair for Advocacy/Public Voice. He served on the Interfaith Advisory Committee for the Presidential campaign of Senator Elizabeth Warren and is a facilitator for aspiring servant political leaders for New Politics.

The Rev. Dr. Richard C. Flippin is a distinguished graduate of Morehouse College class of 2001, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy. He furthered his education at Emory University, Candler School of Theology, Atlanta, GA, where he received a Masters of Divinity degree in 2004. In 2014, he completed his Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Wesley Theological Seminary (American University), Washington, D.C. Most recently, he was inducted into the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Board of Preachers at Morehouse College’s King Chapel as a “Distinguished Preacher.”
Currently, Dr. R. C. Flippin serves as the Executive Pastor and the Director of Organization, Ministry Planning and Special Projects of The Greater Piney Grove Church, Atlanta, GA; his father, Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr. serves as the Senior Pastor. Along with his father, he is a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Rho-Morehouse College Chapter). He is the author of the book, Reaching Young Adults in Your Church: Equipping, Empowering and Energizing YourChurch for the Future.
As the third generation of preachers in his family, Dr. R. C. Flippin plans to continue the legacy of his late grandfather, the Reverend Moses Taylor, Sr. and the vision of his father to seek and to answer the high calling of God, God's people and the community. Rev. Flippin's testimony is “if I can help somebody…”.
Reverend Joseph Charles Taylor Flippin is the youngest son of Rev. Dr. & Mrs. William E. Flippin. Rev. Flippin is a two-thousand three (2003) Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Rev. Flippin is a two-thousand-six (2006) graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary (Washington, DC) with a Master of Divinity. As a freshman at Morehouse College, Rev. Flippin accepted the call to preach the gospel and was later ordained into gospel ministry at his father's church, The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church (Atlanta, Georgia), becoming the third generation of clergy in his family.
During his first year at Wesley Theological Seminary, he was privileged to be appointed Assistant to the Pastor of New Union Baptist Church, Vienna, Virginia. Rev. Flippin, in his final two years at Wesley Theological Seminary, studied under the tutelage of Metropolitan Baptist Church’s (Washington, DC) Senior Servant, Rev. Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Jr. In November 2004, Rev. Flippin had the honor to join Metropolitan’s staff as the Senior Servant’s personal research aid and adjutant.
On February 23, 2006, the Macedonia Baptist Church (Bryans Road Maryland) called Rev. Flippin to become their next Pastor. Under his leadership, numerous lives were transformed for the better, countless souls saved, several programs and ministries were added to during his five years at Macedonia Baptist Church.
Pastor Flippin was honored by being selected by The Informer newspaper as one of America’s 40 Best Pastors Under 40. He has also been privileged to preach the gospel throughout the United States, the Caribbean, in Europe, and Africa. In 2013, Rev. Flippin was inducted in the Morehouse College Board of Distinguished Preachers.
On October 5, 2014, Rev. Flippin began serving the people of Oak Grove as interim pastor, until the church found a permanent shepherd.
On May 16, 2015, Pastor Flippin accepted the call to Pastor the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Nanjemoy, Maryland. He resigned December 2018.
Since 2021, he has served as Interim Pastor the WheatStreet Baptist Church on Sweet Auburn Avenue, Atlanta Georgia
For 9 years he has proudly worked for Delta Airlines.
As the third generation of preachers in his family, Rev. Joseph C.T Flippin plans to continue the legacy of his late grandfather, Rev. Moses Taylor, Sr. and the vision of his father, Rev. William Edward Flippin, Sr. to be a beacon of faith and hope for people seeking to build God's Kingdom here on earth. Through God's grace and mercy, Rev. Flippin wants to answer the high calling of God, God's people, and the community. He seeks to save souls, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, and pursue a ministry rooted in God's Word. To God be the Glory!
